History and Profile
The Faculty of Psychology at the State Islamic University (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is an educational institution under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and academically supervised by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. Its goal is to produce Muslim graduates with a broad understanding of psychology, integrating conventional psychological sciences with Islamic knowledge. The Faculty of Psychology was established in the 1997/1998 academic year as a department when UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang was still named State Islamic College (STAIN) Malang. The program was initiated based on the decree of the Director-General of Islamic Community Guidance, No. E/107/98, concerning the Establishment of the Tarbiyah (Education) Department at STAIN Malang, along with nine other study programs. This decree was reinforced by the publication of the decree No. E/138/1999 dated June 18, 1999, concerning the establishment of Psychology Department and Social Science Education Study Program in Tarbiyah Department, and decree No. E/212/2001, complemented by the decree from the Director-General of Higher Education, No. 2846/D/T/2001, dated July 25, 2001, regarding the Wider Mandate.
To enhance the professionalism of the teaching and learning process, the Psychology Study Program at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang collaborated with the Faculty of Psychology at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), as outlined in the cooperation charter No. UGM/PS/4214/C/03/04 and E.III/H.M.01.1/1110/99. This five-year collaboration included faculty exchange programs and the establishment of laboratories.
In 2002, the Department of Psychology became the Faculty of Psychology as stated in the decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, No. E/353/2002, dated July 17, 2002. This change coincided with the transition of STAIN Malang to the Indonesian Islamic University of Sudan (UIIS), based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia (Ministry of Religious Affairs) and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Sudan (Ministry of Higher Education and Research).
The status of the Faculty of Psychology was further solidified with the signing of a Joint Decree by the Minister of National Education and the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, No. 1/O/SKB/2004 and No. NB/B.V/I/Hk.00.1/058/04, concerning the transformation of STAIN (UIIS) Malang into UIN Malang on January 23, 2003, and the Presidential Decree No. 50/2004 dated June 21, 2004, on the change from STAIN (UIIS) Malang to the State Islamic University (UIN) Malang. The Faculty of Psychology's status was further strengthened with the publication of the decree from the Director-General of Islamic Institutional Affairs, No. DJ.II/233/2005 dated July 11, 2005, regarding the renewal of the accreditation for the Bachelor's (S1) Psychology Program at UIN Malang, and BAN-PT decree No. 003/BAN-PT/Ak-X/S1/II/2007, concerning the status, ranking, and accreditation results of the Bachelor's Programs at higher education institutions.
